- —The Goths, commanded by their king Cniva, crossed the Danubian frontier near Oescus, they were repelled from Novae by the city governor forces and from Nicopolis ad Istrum by the Imperial forces of Decius. Finally they captured Philippopolis, where they overwintered.
- —Decius named Augustus his two sons Hostilian and Herennius.
- —The Gothic forces of Cniva and the Roman Imperial forces of Emperor Decius clash in the Battle of Abrittus, where the Romans are strongly defeated and their Emperor killed in combat.
- —With the death of Decius, the Legions proclaim Emperor Trebonianus Gallus, governor of Moesia, who adopts Hostilian as his son and co-emperor.
