- Circa 1700: The Bonneville Slide blocked the Columbia River near the site of present-day Cascade Locks, Oregon with a land bridge 200 feet (60 m) high. The river would eventually remove the blockage, but this event would become remembered in the local legends of the Native Americans as the Bridge of the Gods.
- 1701–1702: The Daily Courant and the The Norwich Post becomes the first daily newspapers in England.
- 1702: The first successful English daily, The Daily Courant, was published.
- 1703: Saint Petersburg founded by Peter the Great. Russian capital until 1918.
- 1708–1709: Famine kills one-third of East Prussia's population.
- Great Frost of 1709: Coldest winter in 500 years.
